You might have heard the story of the blind men and the elephant?
It’s a famous story about a group who argue over what they’ve encountered because they are each only exposed to a small piece of it.
Those at the tail think it’s a rope, those at the trunk think it’s a snake. There are too many conflicting ideas about what it actually is.
This may seem funny and stupid, but as humans in our day-to-day lives, we are just as clueless about many things... Most Churchgoers are constantly seeing the church as something different-
All of these things are good.
So what does a successful church experience look like? Is it being known as the best in town? Be the most giving compassionate church? To have the best creative arts, team? What about live streams/ internet church? Using better illustrations? Being known as the, "Didn't he write a book or something Guy"? Nah... Guys... It’s Infusionsoft and chatbots with Bitcoin giving options.
Freaking madness.
Most church attendees (veterans or newbies) can be worse than the blind men and the elephant, they often become blind men leading your church.
The blind man might not be leading others in a bad direction (in-fact they might be the nicest people in your circle) but if it isn't a direction you want your church to grow in, that blind man with a harmless misunderstanding, could be the death of the organization.
If you want to know the one truest perspective on the "corporate" church, it’s “***VALUE***”. Only YOU know what your church's ACTUAL values are...The most important thing you can do is share those values... If you don't communicate your values weekly, then you will have blind men leading your church.
The best way to eliminate faulty vision is by sharing your values every. single. service.
Value is the one thing you need to have an extreme bias towards and you can't mind neglecting other things in its pursuit.
Value > Everything.
